Havighurst’s developmental tasks theory :

  • Development is continuous throughout the entire lifespan .

  • Individual moves from stage to next stage by means of successful resolution of problems / performance of developmental tasks.

  • Here, if the person accomplish and master their developmental tasks, it feels with  satisfaction & pride and earns his community / society ‘s approval.

  • This theory presents the individual as active learner interacts as similarly active social environment .

  • He proposed bio psycho social model by comprises eight stages of human lifespan are:

Infancy and toddler / babyhood and early childhood: birth – 5 yrs.

Middle childhood : 6- 12 yrs.

Adolescence : 13 – 17 yrs.

Early adolescence : 18 – 35 yrs.

Middle age : 36 – 60 yrs.

Later maturity : over 60 yrs.

  • All individuals are different – they follow definite and predictable patterns of development – these are similar for all.

  • Every stage of development of individual had expectations of society and traditional beliefs.
